Mary Jane Morifi

Mary-Jane Morifi joined Tiger Brands in 2016 as the Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer. She has worked in the field of social development for more than 30 years and has held senior leadership positions in mining, oil and gas, and food companies where she initiated some of the most innovative social development and empowerment projects in South Africa.

 

With a focus on sustainable socioeconomic development, Mary-Jane has led programmes that focus on the empowerment of women and youth and economic emancipation through job creation, supplier development and community development. This includes Tiger Brands’ smallholder farmer development programme focused on increasing the number of black commercial farmers who supply produce to Tiger Brands.

 

She joined Tiger Brands from The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust where she was the Global Capital Campaign Lead responsible for raising the $100million required to build, equip and train the medical personnel for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital. The state-of-the-art hospital was launched in December 2016 as a legacy for Madiba.

 

Prior to joining the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, she was a member of the Executive Committee of Anglo American Platinum where she led the Corporate Affairs Function. At Anglo American Platinum she launched the mine host community and labour sending areas empowerment initiative. This initiative created an umbrella trust, the Lefa La Rona Trust, and five mine host community trusts and a not for profit company as custodians of the communities’ economic interest in Anglo American Platinum. 

 

She has worked internationally with BP and fulfilled roles in International Audit, Risk Management and Assurance and Marketing Operations.

 

Mary-Jane has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from the University of Cape Town with Post Graduate studies in Arts & Sciences from Harvard University as a visiting fellow.

 

She is a trustee of the Tiger Brands Foundation and currently serves as deputy Chairman and Leratong Hospice. Mary-Jane is a Senior Associate for the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership.
